Mirza Assadullah Baig Khan a pioneer of Urdu and Persian poetry emerges in the Mughal Empire during colonial rule of British. He was born on December 27 -1797 and died on February 15 – 1869. Ghalib was his pen name, which means “dominant”. In his life, the Mughal Emperor awarded him many titles in which “Dabirul Mulk” and “Najm – Ud- Daula” was on top. Ghalib never work for his living, he was awarded by the Emperor court or by friends. Ghalib also lose access to his pension after the fall of Mughal Empire in 1857. Despite of many attempt to restore his pension he never succeeded during rise of British Empire.
Urdu was firs language of Ghalib but Persian and Turkish was spoken in his home so he was familiar of them as well. At the age of eleven, he started composing poetry in Urdu language, later he learned how to read and write Persian language, which helps him in Persian poetry. Keeping poetry aside Ghalib was also a God gifted letter writer, he write letters in such way that he is conversing live with the reader.
Ghalib is still known for his hard work in poetry and his ghazals are sung in various T.V and Stage Shows. Indian cinema produce a tributary film on Mirza Ghalib as one of the famous Urdu Poet of subcontinent in 1954, later to which Pakistani cinema produces a film name “Mirza Ghalib” which was released in 1961.
